Private Sector-Academia Collaboration in R&D

Sabancı collaborates hand in hand with the research and academic world while implementing these technologies at an industry level. Sabancı University's Composite Technologies Excellence Center and SUNUM Sabancı University Nanotechnology and Applications Center are two significant beacons for Sabancı's future advanced material solutions. Staying true to Sabancı's vision, Kordsa has undertaken the initiative to implement the concept of 'Open Innovation' and established the Composite Technologies Excellence Center at the Technopark in Istanbul. Faculty members of Sabancı University, its students, and Kordsa employees work together in this center. This center has also developed a bio-based resin formula from sugarcane waste. This next-generation material, designed for aviation and railway use, is exported to the United States.

Sabancı's "Innovation Bridge" Between Türkiye and Europe

Sabancı Holding has established the Sabancı Technology Center in Germany, which hosts Group companies such as Çimsa and Kordsa. Located in Munich, one of Europe's most powerful innovation centers, the Sabancı Technology Center has opened its doors to carry the Group's R&D, technology, and sustainable product development capabilities on an international scale. This will significantly contribute to the vision of being "Sabancı of the World" and the promise to "unite Türkiye and the world". The Sabancı Technology Center, located within the Technical University of Munich (TUM), will also become one of Europe's symbolic platforms for university-industry collaboration. Collaboration with TUM, one of Europe's leading universities in engineering, technology, and natural sciences, will facilitate the realization and commercialization of bright ideas in R&D.

Türkiye's First R&D Center Certification

TEMSA, Türkiye's leading bus manufacturer, earned the title and certificate of Türkiye's first R&D Center in 2008. Incorporating innovation and mobility solutions into every aspect of its operations, TEMSA produces 10 different models of zero-emission eco-friendly buses. The battery packs and battery management systems required for electric vehicles are entirely designed and software-developed by TEMSA engineers in the Battery Laboratory. Within the scope of these efforts, Equad emerged as a 100% electric small distribution vehicle that can also be driven with pedals. TEMSA continues its work on alternative fuel vehicle projects for a sustainable environment.

The first R&D Center of the cement sector

Çimsa Formülhane was established in 2000 as an Application and Research Center. In 2017, it was approved by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, thereby earning the title of the first R&D Center in the cement sector. Currently, together with its expert R&D team and stakeholders, they are developing innovative products and solutions with high added value. Çimsa is working on projects that will support efforts to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050. These projects focus on innovative products that reduce carbon dioxide footprint, energy efficiency, digitalization, and the use of alternative raw materials to reduce natural resource consumption. Additionally, they are among the top 10 Turkish Industrial Organizations that have qualified for funding under the Horizon 2020 Program (2014-2020) published by TÜBİTAK.
